However, colour is used, in what we believe to be a logical and intuitive way, to enhance navigation. Normal text and headings are in the colour used in this paragraph. Strong text and text in this colour and font or, occassionally, text in this colour and font are used for emphasis in text and have no structural significance. Where text is in the colour of the section heading "Use of Colour" above, then it is a sub-heading designed to break the page up into logical smaller units of content. Where the colour of this text is used, it indicates the presence of a link. When 'touched' by the mouse, a colour change will occur to draw your attention to it. When reached by tab, a box appears around it. All links on this site use this colour, except in the main menu under the banner, and all text in this colour is a link. This is a link to the section heading above.Menu StructureThere are two menu areas on the site:
The Main Menu has between one and three rows, depending where you are. The first row is always present on every page and contain links to the top-level of the site. It is light text on a dark background in general. When you move your mouse over a link, the colours reverse so it is dark text on a light background. If a page has sub-pages or you are on one of those sub-pages, then the second line of the main menu appears with link text in the standard link colour and changing to the rather different link-hover colour on mouseover. If a sub-page has sub-pages or you are on one of those sub-pages, then the third line of the menu appears with the same format as the second line. When you are on a particular page, or one of its sub-pages, the link text for that page and all pages hierarchically higher is in the colour used for section headings (like "Menu Structure" above) and on a light background. Although this link or chain of links does not change colour on mouse-over, it remains a working link. When you are on a page reached by a variety of routes, e.g. from the Footer Menu, then the colour-coded route to top level will not necessarily apply. All of which is hopefully a lot easier to experience than it was to explain! |
